Description

Concrete Countertop Dye

1qt. (946ml) per bottle. Will cover approximately 75 - 100 sq . ft.

Z Aqua-Tint is a water soluble concrete dye formulated for use on concrete

countertops. It can be applied to polished, troweled or textured concrete . Z Aqua-Tint will duplicate the performance of solvent based dyes while eliminating the dangers of flammable solvents. When cured, Z Aqua-Tint exhibits the same long lasting beauty as traditional dyes. Z Aqua-Tint comes in a variety of colors that can be mixed to create nearly any desired tone. 100% countertop safe.

Aqua-Tint vs Aqua-Stain UV

Z Aqua-Tint dyes are fine pigments that are many, many times smaller than what is contained in stains. These pigments actually go into a solution with dyes rather than a suspension as with stains. This makes Aqua-Tint the ideal solutions for a very tight finished countertop that has a burnished steel trowel or highly polished (past 400 grit) surface. The nature of dyes allows them to penetrate into the concrete almost regardless of the “openness” of the surface. A rough analogy is the stains are a form of paint, and dyes are more like an ink.

Concrete dye particles do not exhibit good light fastness. In other words, they tend to fade in sunlight. That makes Z Aqua-Tint dyes a poor choice for outdoor concrete that is in direct sunlight. For outdoor applications, it is safer to use Z Aqua-Stain UV .

WARNING: Colors may vary depending on concrete mixture initial color and the porosity of the concrete. ALWAYS test on a sample piece or in an inconspicuous area to verify color before coating entire top. Samples were created with Z Counter-Pack mix and standard concrete mix sanded to 400 grit before applying Z Aqua-Tint. Two coats of Z SiAcryl 14 were then applied.

Staining countertops

"This was quite an experience. The how to's made it look pretty easy and honestly, our countertops came out beautifully. But this was hard and you have no control over the colors. I thought I was getting a light gray and a darker gray but what I ended up with was a bluish gray countertop. This is my advice, pick your favorite colors and just allow the process knowing that there is a little bit of magic and a lot of the house picking its own colors...lol. Honestly, stressful but worth it."

Don't buy ebony and snow!!!

"Do not buy ebony and snow!!!! It will turn blue. I called and talked to the lady here and she tried to tell me it was the concrete and I both it from this site and then goes on to say the ebony sometimes turns blue with no explanation. I was just looking for a dark gray for my counter and went to menards and they had had a gallon for stain for $40 and worked perfectly."

Easy Peasy

"I applied with a paint brush with standing puddles randomly let dry and repeated 3 times, added the second color in the same manner 3 times, then blotted with a sponge. When completely dry I wiped with a wet cloth till most stain residue was gone. Sealed nicely and looks great"

JOHN C. (5/5)

Q&A

What Z August Tint (Dye) is a more gray/charcoal color? It is hard to tell on my computer.
Ebony is a dark charcoal/ black color but it can be diluted with water to create just about any shade of gray if you need to lighten it.
I have a countertop that has integral charcoal coloring in it but I didn't put enough charcoal into the mix for the island, so it turned out lighter than the rest of my counters. I needed to get the tops sealed so I already applied siacryl 14 to all of them. My question is, now that I've sealed the island, can it still be dyed darker using aqua tint? And if so, would several/heavy coats of the ebony aqua tint be able to darken up the island so it's at least closer in color to the rest if my tops? Thanks.
Unfortunately, once the concrete is sealed, topical stains or dyes will not work. The sealer would have to be stripped first. This sealer can be stripped chemically with the use of acetone or xylene though.
Can I apply aqua tint over a charcoal integral color concrete? Any experience with this? I’m aiming for dark countertops but with some translucent color on top that mimics minerals in rock.
Yes, this can be done but depending on how dark the concrete is and what color Aqua-Tint you are using, they may not show up great. Typically you want to use a darker color of lighter concrete.
Can z aqua tint slightly be mixed with the white concrete mix to get a marble affect?
No, Aqua-Tint is a topical dye that is used once the concrete is poured and cured. This can be used on the surface though to create a marbling affect.
Which sealer is compatible with Z aqua tint (dye)
Any of the sealers we sell will be compatible with the Aqua-Tint.
