Description

Concrete Countertop Stain

4oz. per bottle. Will cover approximately 10 sq. ft. depending on porosity of concrete.

Z Aqua-Stain UV is an extremely versatile and long lasting water based concrete stain. It is a safe, non-toxic product used to color various concrete surfaces. It is a great alternative to common acid stains. It contains no hazardous components, yet can produce the mottled, variegated look associated with chemical (acid) stains used in decorative concrete. It is UV stable and will not fade from exposure to direct sunlight. Aqua-Stain UV can be used alone, mixed, blended or layered for any number of natural looking effects. Stains are most commonly applied with a rag, brush, roller, sponge, or pump type sprayer for different effects.

Aqua-Stain UV vs Aqua-Tint

For outdoor applications, it is safer to use Aqua-Stain UV. On indoor applications with tight finishes such as a burnished or polished surface, Aqua-Tint may be the better choice. If the concrete is neither outdoors nor has a polished finish, either product will work well. A rough analogy is the stains are a form of paint, and dyes are more like an ink.

Note: this video shows only one application technique to create a varietagted or stone faux finish look. Other application methods such as a brush, sponge, or rag will create different effects.

Color Chart

WARNING: Colors may vary depending on concrete mixture initial color and the porosity of the concrete. The samples below were created on top of a standard gray concrete mix. The mottled effect was created by applying one coat evenly with a rag. Additional coats were then applied in a random, non-uniform applications to give variegated look commonly seen with acid stains. If a more uniform look is desired, this can be achieved with more even applications.

Easy to Apply, Easy to Correct

"I bought three different colors for topical staining. I used them at different stages after the countertop had cured for 35 days. First, mixed w/equal parts water, and applied with different spray methods, then a few more applications with different wiping methods, and then full strengthe with a couple of different brushes. The countertops are heated so I would always let each step "cure" with the countertop quite warm and then a full water washcloth wipe down to wipe away any excess on the surface. It was artistic trial and error but errors could easily be reversed. Absolutely love the final result. Would use this again in a heartbeat."

Looks Ok

"It turned out meh. I had to color and seal twice, diamond wheel grinded off the first round. 2nd time with the same color and this stain. I wish I had never started this project, I am pretty handy, but this one whipped me. The aqua-stain does have a wetted look, but it left a wavy texture."

Great products with lots of online tips

"I'm a DIY-er who recently got into working with stone and concrete. I wanted to build an outdoor kitchen and didn't want to use any combustible materials in the build. I found Concrete Countertop Solutions for the pour-in place countertop and used their Z Form half bullnose and Liquicrete concrete amendment along with the Aqua-Stain and M35 sealer. I couldn't be more thrilled with the outcome. They made me look like a pro."

Q&A

Can this stain be applied over Z SiAcryl 14 if I sand the top coat? And then re-seal.
If you completely remove the SiAcryl 14 you can. The issue may be this is a penetrating sealer so it can be hard to remove completely by sanding only. I would recommend using Acetone as well to help strip sealer. You will also want to test in small area with stain because if sealer is not completely stripped, it will not take evenly and may look blotchy.
